Spring Job Fair Cancelled
April 27, 2009 - The Wake County Public School System has cancelled its Spring Job Fair as the school system addresses budget issues brought on by the downturn in the nation’s economy. The school system has already taken steps to address funding restrictions established by the State Department of Public Instruction for school districts across the state based upon the state’s continuing cash flow shortages.
The Wake County Board of Education has submitted a budget to the Wake County Commissioners and is awaiting action by the state which supplies more than 60 percent of the school system’s annual operating budget. After discussions with state lawmakers, Superintendent Del Burns has advised school principals to hire 95 percent of their teacher allotment for 2009-10 and to notify staff on year to year contracts that renewal would be contingent on sufficient funding being provided in the state budget. These steps will provide the school system the flexibility to respond to state funding reductions.
Once the state budget is approved, the school system will be able to evaluate its staffing levels.
The Wake County Public School System continues to seek outstanding teachers to serve our students. Eligible applicants should submit all components of the WCPSS application if they wish to be considered for a position in one of the nation’s best school systems.
