Spring Job Fair Set for Saturday, April 19

April 2, 2008- More than 2,000 teacher candidates are expected to take part in the 2008 Spring Job Fair to be held by the Wake County Public School System on April 19.

Candidates interested in taking part in the job fair should register by April 14.

“This is an opportunity for teacher candidates to interview with all principals at one time and a chance for principals to conduct multiple interviews in one day,” said Joan Kister, WCPSS Senior Director for Teacher Retention and Recruitment. “We do attract high performing teachers. Last year, 2,000 teachers came from 38 different states.”

The job fair will include hundreds of WCPSS volunteers and interviewers. Principals, assistant principals, teachers, Human Resources staff and other employees will be there to explain to teacher candidates the many benefits of working in Wake County. They will talk about:

WCPSS offers a local salary supplement to the base state pay. Bachelor degree teachers are offered 13.25 % to 16.25 % over and above the state salary. Master degree teachers earn 13.75% to 16.75% above the state salary.

The fair begins with check-in from 7:30-8:30 a.m. for pre-registered candidates. Elementary level candidates should go to Green Hope High and middle and high school candidates should go to Panther Creek High.

Between 8:30 and 10 a.m., teacher candidates will schedule interviews with representatives of different WCPSS schools. The interviews will be conducted from 10:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Candidates may provide résumé to administrators of schools in which they have an interest.

School–based administrators will be interviewing candidates to fill current teaching vacancies and anticipated vacancies for the 2008-09 school year. With three additional elementary schools opening and a projected enrollment increase of about 6,000 students, WCPSS has many positions to fill. Contracts for employment may be offered on site to select applicants.

Candidates should be fully licensed, have completed student teaching or be eligible for a valid teaching license.
