Free Seminar Shows Elementary Parents How to Help Their Children Improve At Math
Register for Mathematics Teaching & Learning in the 21st Century: A Balance Between Skills & Concepts through Sept. 10.
Mastering math is not just a classroom skill, it's a life skill. The global economy is changing, and now, more than ever, adults need a solid foundation in math skills. Parents in Wake County can learn what they can do to help their children become strong math students, thanks to a special event scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 11 from 7-9 p.m. in the Leesville Road High School auditorium. The event is free and open to the public, but due to limited seating, online registration is required.
Mathematics Teaching & Learning in the 21st Century: A Balance Between Skills & Concepts will provide parents of elementary school children with activities and strategies that highlight mathematical development featuring basic skills and conceptual understanding. Moreover, parents will be involved in activities that can foster and increase mathematical skills in their children.
The program is being presented by Dr. Eric Milou, a professor of mathematics at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ.
The first 200 families to register will receive a free book, A Family Guide: Fostering Your Child's Success in Mathematics, from the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM). Registration closes Sept. 10.
