Bus Routes Posted Online for August 25 Start of School
August 15, 2008 - With the start of the traditional calendar school year right around the corner, parents are encouraged to review bus routes and stops for their child’s school.Bus route information is posted on www.wcpss.net by the Wake County Public School System Transportation Department for the traditional calendar schools that start the new school year August 25.
Routes are developed by the Transportation Department based on student enrollment and then are refined during the first weeks of school as the Transportation Department determines the students that have decided to use bus service.
The transportation department operates a three-tiered system. One driver and bus is responsible for delivering students to three schools in the morning and returning them home in the afternoon. As a result, schools are assigned to open between 7:30 and 9:15 in the morning. The earliest opening times are at middle and high schools. Most elementary schools open at 8:30 or later. Operating the three-tier system saves the cost of buying more buses and hiring more drivers.
