Sycamore Creek Elementary Opens Monday, Aug. 18
August 14, 2008 - It’s been six weeks since the first day of the 2008-09 year-round calendar, and now the students of Sycamore Creek Elementary will enjoy another first day of school on Monday, Aug 18. That’s when they begin the first day of classes at their new school on Leesville Road in Raleigh.Friday, August 15 will be the last day Sycamore Creek students will attend Hillburn Drive Elementary, where they have had classes while contractors put the finishing touches on the Sycamore Creek building.
“We are very excited about starting classes in our new building on Monday morning. We are so very fortunate to receive such a beautiful school for our children,” said Principal Kristen Faircloth. “Monday will be an exciting and busy day, but we’re ready.”
Parents are asked to enter the car pool lane at the traffic light at the intersection of Leesville Rd. and Farless Rd. and to refrain from using the separate bus lanes. Teachers and staff will be waiting curb-side to greet students and escort them into the building. To facilitate a smooth drop-off, parents are asked to avoid walking their children into the school.
Students who attend the before-school program will be greeted at the curb by YMCA staff members.
Once inside, teachers, staff and signs will direct students to their classes. Classroom teachers will greet students in the hallways outside their rooms.
A special School Warming event is also scheduled for Monday, August 18 from 5-6 p.m. It’s a chance for parents to walk through the building and see the new facility for themselves.
