Board Members Take Oath of Office for 2007 Term

Returning members of the board include Board chair Rosa Gill, vice chair Beverly Clark in her third term representing District 6 and Ron Margiotta in his second term representing District 8. New to the board are Anne McLaurin and Kevin Hill.
Anne McLaurin is our new District 5 representative. Anne is a family physician at the SAS Health Care Center at the SAS Institute. She has a long history of community service. She has volunteered for many years as a tutor for an after-school program in the Chavis Heights community, and has helped the YWCA with its breast cancer screening program for poor women. Both her children attended and graduated from the Wake County Public School System.
Kevin Hill will be representing District 3. He brings a lot of experience with him to the board. He spent his entire professional career with the Wake County Public School System. He served as a teacher, an assistant principal and 11 years as a principal. As a principal, he opened Wildwood Forest Elementary School and he also served as president of the Division of Principals and Assistant Principals. In addition, he has served in teaching roles at NC State University and with the NC TEACH Program and the UNC Principals’ Executive Program.
Hill was unable to attend today’s meeting and will attend his first board meeting as a board member Dec. 18.
The ceremony began with Rosa Gill’s grand daughter leading everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. Former board chair Kathryn Watson Quigg delivered the invocation. The oath of office was administered by Judge Sydney Eagles.
The newly sworn-in board members then introduced members of their families in attendance and the meeting adjourned for a brief reception.
