Third Phase of Growth Management Community Meetings in November
October 29, 2003 - Four meetings will be held during the first two weeks of November to solicit citizens' views on assigning students to schools.
The meetings are the third phase of the Wake County Public School System's Community Engagement Meetings to help inform and involve the public in the student assignment process. In this phase of meetings, participants will discuss how different schools in the area might be affected by the growth management plan for the upcoming year and for the future.
Different meetings will focus on different schools. Please attend the meeting that corresponds to your current school.

In this third phase of meetings, participants will hear a 30-minute description of issues related to creating student assignment plans. The remaining time will be devoted to small group discussions on growth management recommendations for area schools.
EARLIER MEETINGS
In the first phase of the Community Engagement Meetings held
in September, participants heard a description of WCPSS policies,
practices, and processes related to growth management.
In the second phase of meetings held in October, participants discussed Wake County's growth by region and recommended priorities in filling newly-opened schools.
TIMELINE
After the community engagement meetings, the WCPSS Office of Growth Management will take the information they have received, and publish a growth management proposal in January 2004. Public comment on the proposal will be reviewed.
A growth management plan will be presented to the Board of Education in February 2004. The board will hold public hearings on the proposal and then vote to adopt the proposal.
Seven new schools are scheduled to open in 2004-2005. The new schools include traditional calendar schools Forestville Road Elementary, Highcroft Elementary, Salem Middle and Knightdale High and year-round schools Jones Dairy Elementary, Turner Creek Elementary and Heritage Middle.
