2004 NCLB-Required Choice Options Timeline
No Child Left Behind requires that Title I elementary schools that do not make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for two years in a row must offer transfer options to all students in that school following year. For a full explanation of the NCLB choice program and its implementation in Wake County, visit the Parental Choice page.
If any Wake County Public Schools meet the criteria for offering transfer options for the 2004-05 school year, the timeline for parental notification and response is as follows:
- June 1 - Board of Education approves schools of choice.
- June 7 - Letters will be mailed to parents notifying them of their choice options.
- June 21 - Deadline for parents wishing to make a request for a school of choice to return a completed form to WCPSS. Must be stamped received by 5 p.m.
- July 14 - Letters will be mailed to parents notifying them of selected school, the process for declining a transfer, and the availability and type of transportation.
- July 23 - Deadline for parents to notify WCPSS if they do not want the assignment.
- August 3-9 - Schools will notify parents of transportation arrangements.
