Student Status
- There will be no recruitment for students to apply for any of these magnet programs after the 2007-08 school year.
- Students who have been accepted through the magnet selection process may choose to remain at the school and to maintain their magnet status.
- By maintaining magnet status they will receive some priority when applying to the next level of magnet school.
- Siblings of existing magnet students who are listed on an intent form will be allowed to enter the school with magnet status. It is the school system’s standard procedure to send intent forms home with magnet students in grades K-4.
- Magnet students (application and siblings) will continue to receive transportation (if it is currently provided) until the end of phase out (2009-10).
- The parents of a current magnet student at Lincoln Heights, Olds, and Root Elementary Schools will have the option to apply to a different magnet elementary school for the 2008-09 school year. As with any application, the parents would be required to choose from the list of magnet programs available to them based on their home address. The magnet application for the student would be given a priority in the selection process.
Forestville Road Elementary School
The magnet program at Forestville Road was scheduled for initial planning during the 2007-08 school year with the first year of implementation to be in 2008-09. Students were permitted to apply to Forestville Road as magnet students for the 2007-08 school year. The Magnet Programs office will contact each of the families of the students who were accepted to Forestville Road for the 2007-08 school year as magnet students to explain that the program will not be implemented. If these parents choose to stay at Forestville Road, they will have the option to apply to a different magnet elementary school for the 2008-09 school year. As with any application, the parents would be required to choose from the list of magnet programs available to them based on their home address. The magnet application for the student would be given a priority in the selection process. There is no transportation for magnet students attending Forestville Road Elementary School. The professional development that was originally planned for the Forestville Road staff will be carried out in August 2007.
