Long-Range Planning Department
The Long-Range Planning Department, within WCPSS's Growth and Planning Department under Auxillary Services, has two focus areas:
Short-term planning(currently funded building program) --
- Uses the projected number of students to determine each school’s ability to provide magnet electives, special education needs, general education needs, etc.
- Makes capacity adjustments using temporary classroom utilization, special program assignments, student reassignment, and calendar use.
Long-term planning(future building programs) --
- Helps Growth and Planning with membership projections based on regional data from Wake County Planning, Growth Management, and OR/Ed-ITRE (NCSU).
- Develops capacity projections based on currently-funded building programs, approved calendar options, and mobile/modular temporary classroom units.
- Decides the number and locations of new schools and when they
are needed based on
- the use of temporary classrooms,
- the utilization of school facilities, and
- the year-round calendar.
- Together this information determines the scope of the next building program
