Leaders4Wake: A Multidisciplinary Internship Program

"Leaders4Wake" is a multidisciplinary internship program designed to provide college/university students from all majors, at the undergraduate level and graduate level, experience in a variety of areas in the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS). The program’s goal is to prepare the Leaders with the knowledge, tools, and expertise that they can readily apply to future positions in education and/or other professions.
What We Offer
Hands-on experiences in relation to the inner workings of WCPSS will be provided for the Leaders. As a result, the Leaders will be exposed to important district-wide initiatives and in-depth issues aligned with their field of study at the college/university level.

Professional Development
An essential component of the internship program will be to provide the Leaders with opportunities to develop professional networks with members of the Superintendent’s Leadership Team.
Interns will have the opportunity to:
- Visit schools in WCPSS
- Work directly with members of the Superintendent’s Leadership Team
- Interact with business leaders, education leaders, and other stakeholder groups in the community
- Attend work sessions with the Superintendent’s Leadership Team
- Participate in leadership and professional development workshops
- Work on projects critical to the school system’s daily operations
Who Can Apply?
This program is seeking individuals who have the following:
- A strong passion for education and increasing student achievement
- Knowledge of WCPSS’ mission, vision, and core beliefs
- A strong academic record
- Excellent organization and communication skills
- The ability to solve problems and work independently
- Flexibility to work on a variety projects/tasks at the same time
Requirements of Internship
Each Leader will be required to complete the following during his/her time in the program:
- Two (2) program evaluations
- An end-of-term presentation
- Three (3) school visits in WCPSS
- Attend all leadership and professional development workshops provided by WCPSS staff members for the Leaders
Student Eligibility
College/university students at the undergraduate level and graduate level from all fields of study are eligible to apply for admission to the “Leaders4Wake” internship program.
Application Process
A completed application contains the following items:
- Leaders4Wake Internship Application Form (Online)
- Updated resume
- 300-500 word responses to the each of the following questions:
- Why are you interested in joining Leaders4Wake?
- Where do you see yourself professionally in five years?
- Verification of enrollment at a college/university during the internship period
Additional items for the application process:
- Students will be required to complete a 15-minute phone interview (please list your availability on the Application Form)
- Students must complete the WCPSS Volunteer System Application (this will be provided after admission into the program)
- All students must be approved in the WCPSS Volunteer System before beginning internship.

Note: Summer interns will be admitted to the program if enrolled in school for the previous Spring semester or upcoming Fall semester.
