Overview of Student Support Services
Student Support Services Department Mission: The Student Support Services Department will provide services and educational programs that promote student success.
Student Support Services provides support to schools and students to help them meet with success in school academically, behaviorally and socially. Our department consists of the following areas: Exceptional Children’s’ Services (Special Education), Counseling and Student Services, Prevention Services, Positive Behavior Support (PBS) and Central Records. Our department also provides support and oversight for the WCPSS Alternative Schools and Programs (River Oaks, Longview, Mt Vernon, Bridges, Mary E. Phillips High School, Richard Milburn).

Special Education Services will provide leadership and support to schools to promote success for students with disabilities.
Prevention Services will collaboratively use the resources of home, school and community to maximize the experience and success of children and their families in public education.
Counseling and Student Services will promote student success by supporting the development of the whole child and collaborating with the school, family and community.
Positive Behavior Support will empower teachers and other adults with the skills needed to improve overall classroom and school climate to achieve higher academic performance for all students.
Alternative Schools will develop and provide comprehensive services for at risk, severely behaviorally impaired and socially dysfunctional youth in safe, supportive, and structured environments designed for academic, behavioral and social success.
Central Records will collect, maintain and permanently house and provide, as requested, historical student and system records.
