Parent Liaisons
Parents Working With Parents
"Parental Involvement produces higher grades and test scores; better attendance and more homework completed; fewer placements in special education; more positive attitudes toward school and better behavior; higher graduation rates; and increased enrollment in education after high school."
Parent Liaisons |
| Parent liaisons are parents working with parents. They work to bridge the communication between school and home by helping parents get the information, help and support they need to ensure their child's academic and social success in school. Often, parents feel uncomfortable about sharing their questions or concerns with the teachers or school administration. Because good communication between home and school is such a vital part of their child's academic success, Parent Liaisons listen to concerns and then work with parents to make sure that their situation, question or point of view is expressed and understood. Parent Liaisons help and support parents if they need to find ways to resolve any issue that may be hindering their child's success in school. Parent Liaisons want to be sure that parents understand what they can do to get involved, keep informed, share information and help their child do his or her best in school. |
What can Parent Liaisons do to help schools involve parents:
- Bring parents to join students for lunch at school
- Organize a student show for parents to attend
- Provide families with a list of good books from the school library
- Distribute pamphlets and information to parents on a regular basis
- Plan outings to libraries/museums to help families prepare for projects or class work
- Attend gatherings with parents
