The Board of Education created the Healthy Schools Task Force to examine and discuss a variety of issues that impact the on-going health and stability of public education in Wake County, including:
- Academic Success for All WCPSS Students, Grades K-12
- Diversity in Schools
- Capacity Utilization of Existing and Future Facilities
- Community Expectations of Our Public School System
The task force was created on October 8, 2002. After a public nomination period, the Board of Education named 28 people to the Healthy Schools Task Force on December 3, 2002. The task force held its first meeting December 12, 2002.
Dick Daugherty (daugherty3@prodigy.net) and Dudley Flood (floodspeaker@worldnet.att.net) co-chair the task force. Anyone wishing to address the Healthy Schools Task Force must first put their request in writing to the task force stating their topic of discussion. The task force will decide whether or not to hear from persons outside of the group and when. For more information, please contact one of the task force co-chairs.
The task force will produce a written report and recommendations to the Board of Education. The recommendations will ensure continued growth in student achievement, increase the satisfaction of parents and key constituencies, address facility issues including decisions related to PLAN 2004, and increase community support for the Wake County Public School System.
