March 23, 2006 - After seven months of discussion with the community on filling new schools opening for 2006-07, the Board of Education approved a growth management plan at its meeting Tuesday night.

March 21, 2006 - In a final public hearing last night on the 2006-07 Growth Management Plan, the Board of Education heard from 13 speakers who commented on board actions in the March 8 Board of Education work session that added their families to the plan.
Board Reviews Growth Management Plan
Updated, March 13, 2006 - The Wake County Board of Education made a number of changes to the 2006-07 growth management plan during a nine-hour work session on March 8. A public hearing on those changes is scheduled for Monday, March 20 at 6 p.m. in the Board Room of the Central Administration building at 3600 Wake Forest Road.

In the last six years, Wake County's local governments have issued more than 57,000 residential building permits. The number of residential building permits has increased from 8,380 in 2000 to 10,967 in the first eleven months of 2005. WCPSS does not have input into this permitting process.

Wake Expects Another 7,000 Students Next Year
Wake County schools are expected to gain more than 7,000 new students next year, bringing total enrollment to 127,513. Estimates show Wake gaining 40,000 students by the year 2010 and 72,000 more students by 2015.

2005 Community Engagement Meetings Resource Center

PLAN 2004 Resource Center
On October 7, 2003, Wake County voters approved a $450 million school bond referendum. Called PLAN 2004, the program covers 2004-08 and includes building 13 new schools and a pre-kindergarten center, comprehensive renovations at 16 schools, and repairs and re-roofing projects at 61 campuses for $550 million. PLAN 2004 is one segment of a continuous capital improvement program to address the demands and responsibilities associated with growth.
