How are hearing evaluations conducted by the school system?
CategoriesDepartment |
Mass hearing screenings are conducted on all kindergarten and first grade students. Also, all students who are being considered for a special education evaluation undergo hearing screening. If a child fails two screening attempts, a school system audiologist receives a referral from the school for an in-depth hearing evaluation to be done. The parent is contacted and asked to bring the child to the audiology clinic at the school system's Atlantic Avenue building for the hearing evaluation to be conducted. The audiologist then shares the results with the parent and makes recommendations for any next steps that might be necessary. Note: These services are at no charge to the parent.
