Tests: K-5: Where do I find information on students’ achievement for Kindergarten, Grade 1 and 2? Where can I find results for other local K-5 Assessments?

Kindergarten-grade 2 assessments inform teachers’ instruction of students. In accordance with the State Board of Education requirements, assessments are more individualized at the Kindergarten to grade 2 level than the group tests used in the later grades.
When students first enter kindergarten, teachers gather information through the Kindergarten Initial Assessment (KIA) about their learning needs and strengths. The K-5 assessments utilized by WCPSS monitor students’ achievement of benchmarks and objectives in the NC Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS) throughout the year. The State Board of Education requires individualized assessments at the Kindergarten to grade 2 level. WCPSS chose to develop and use assessments at grades 3-5. Teachers document students’ status on an ongoing basis throughout the year in literacy and mathematics and provide the year-end status for students for reporting by school and across WCPSS.
