Test, Computer Skills: What is the North Carolina Test of Computer Skills?

Demonstration of computer proficiency is a requirement for a high school diploma. Students who entered grade 8 in 2005-06 or beyond are tested using an online test format. Students who entered grade 8 before 2005-06 are tested using a multiple choice and performance format. Beginning in 8th grade, students must be given at least one opportunity to take the test and demonstrate proficiency. The newer online test does not use a standard software program such as Microsoft Office. A practice test and the NCDESK software is available at http://ncdesk.ncsu.edu/ncdesk/ .
