How much time is recommended for the literacy block?

WCPSS recommends that the K-2 literacy block be scheduled for two and a half hours and the 3-5 literacy block be scheduled for two hours. Included in this block of instruction should be 45 minutes to an hour of writing through Writer’s Workshop. Some magnet school schedules do not allow for this block of time but teachers should make every effort to ensure that their students receive daily scheduled time for both reading and writing instruction.
