More than 1,000 mobile or modular classrooms were in use during the 2005-06 school year and 103 additional units were installed for 2006-07. During the current school year there are 1,128 mobile or modular classrooms on campuses throughout Wake County.

The percentage of students in permanent classrooms in 2005-06 was 72.7% in elementary schools, 85.3% in middle schools, and 85.5% in high schools. The school system's long-term goal is to have 92% of students in permanent classrooms.
