No tax increase is needed for the capital plan. Although WCPSS will incur annual costs to operate and maintain the new schools – just as it does for existing schools – these costs do not necessarily mean an increase in the tax rate.
New schools are needed because over 20,000 people move to Wake County every year; 3,000 of those enroll in Wake County schools. These newcomers increase our enrollment and the number of people paying taxes. This increased tax base provides greater revenue without raising the tax rate.
