Who is eligible for medical insurance?
CategoriesDepartment |
Coverage is provided to full-time permanent employees with dependent coverage available. Employee-only coverage is offered at no charge with The State of North Carolina Comprehensive Major Medical Plan. There is a cost for dependent coverage.
Permanent part-time employees, employed 50% or greater and not classified as full-time, are eligible to purchase coverage by paying the employee and the employer cost.
All eligible employees are required to complete an enrollment form either to decline coverage or to enroll for coverage.
Complete enrollment form within 30 days of employment in order to keep 12-month waiting period for preexisting health conditions from applying.
When does 12-month waiting period for preexisting conditions not apply?
1) If the insurance plan does not practice the 12-month waiting period rule.
2) If an individual had continuous coverage under a previous plan to a date not more than sixty-three (63) days before the effective date of their new coverage. A Prior Health Coverage Information form is to be attached with the enrollment application if coverage existed.
Insurance cannot be effective in the first month of employment.
Premiums are deducted a month in advance.
Premiums are prorated based on your months of employment. The exception is year-round school employees.
Premium rates are calculated as follows:
