When does my teaching license expire?
CategoriesDepartment |
There are several types of licenses:
• A Standard Professional 1 license is given to teachers that are in their first three years of teaching. These teachers are a part of the Beginning Teacher program. When they have successfully completed this three year program, their licenses automatically convert to Standard Professional 2 licenses.
• A Standard Professional 1 license is also issued to teachers that have moved here from out of state and have more than three years teaching experience. This license is good for three years. It can be converted to a Standard Professional 2 license at the end of any of those three years. The teachers must have ‘at standard or above’ in all areas of their summative evaluations. They must also be converted with the consent of the principal.
• A Standard Professional 2 license is often termed a ‘continuing’ license. It is a license with a five year renewal cycle. Fifteen credit units must be earned in each five year cycle.
• A Validated license is issued to a teacher whose license has expired. Teachers with this type of license have a three year window to earn fifteen credit units. When this is completed their licenses convert to Standard Professional 2 licenses.
The top right on the license shows the effective date and the expiration date of a license
At the far left is the program code. The first digit indicates what kind of license it is: 8 is a beginning teacher, S is a teacher from out of state, 0 is a Standard Professional 2 license.
