What EnergySavers incentives are available for schools?
CategoriesDepartment |
The greatest savings are realized by changing energy consumption habits or lifestyles. An incentive plan that rewards positive change lies at the heart of the EnergySavers® Program.
Rebate dollars returned to the schools are available for one-time expenditures, such as purchasing computers, classroom resources or library materials. The funds returned to the EnergySavers® Program help make facilities more energy efficient, provide educational resources and staff support, and underwrite the other needs of the program. An average of over $82,000 in rebates have been distributed to schools each year since the inception of the program.
Savings from year-to-year are determined by comparing base year usage and expense data to the current year's data at the end of each fiscal year. Factored into the comparison are adjustments for renovations or additions, energy use beyond the normal day, summer school, fluctuations in student population, weather conditions, and other special circumstances. Allowances will also be made for new schools until base year data can be established. Because of year-end accounting procedures, the rebates are not disbursed until the following traditional calendar school year, though the funds will actually have been earned from the previous year's conservation efforts.
Additional incentives are also provided through various awards programs which recognize the facilities whose conservation efforts have placed them on the "honor roll" throughout the year. Efforts by individuals and groups to promote conservation are acknowledged and rewarded. In cooperation with our business partners, it is hoped monetary rewards can also be included.
