Evaluation & Research

Surveys

In keeping with the commitment of WCPSS to continuous improvement and accountability, the Evaluation and Research Department conducts surveys of parents, students, teachers and school administrators. We seek to provide objective and accurate information to decision-makers, stakeholders, and other audiences. Annual projects include the Parent, Staff, Student, and Graduate Intentions Surveys. Some survey items are used year after year to reflect trends, while others change to reflect current issues.
Parent and Student Surveys

Parent and Student Surveys have been administered annually or biannually since 1990. Some projects have used samples of students and parents, while others have involved all students or parents at selected grade levels.

Staff Survey

A Staff Survey has been administered every year. The source and content of the survey vary by year. The North Carolina Governor’s office conducts a Teachers’ Working Conditions survey every two years. In 2006-07, teachers were surveyed on their use of Professional Learning Communities. In other years, WCPSS has surveyed teachers on topics such as job satisfaction, the school's programs, or special initiatives.

Graduate Intentions Survey

The Graduate Intentions Survey is administered to each high school student in his or her senior year. Each senior is asked to indicate his or her intentions regarding further education or employment. A list of graduates and a summary of their intentions are reported to the state each summer.

Some survey results are shared only with schools. Others are analyzed and summarized at the district level. Available reports can be found on our reports by topic page.
