System Wide Closing, Delayed Openings and Early Dismissals
System wide closing, delayed openings and early dismissals are almost always due to inclement weather such as snow storms, ice storms or hurricanes. System staff monitor weather reports and road conditions closely when inclement weather is in the forecast. Staff tries to make the determination about whether to have school as soon as is practical.
If no announcement is made, that means schools are opening on their regular schedule.
If the decision is made to cancel classes, open late or dismiss schools early, the following plan goes into effect:
- The crisis team will go into action to monitor and manage the situation.
- This Website will carry the announcement of the closing, delay or early dismissal.
- The Notification Service will be activated to inform subscribers of the situation.
- Media outlets will be notified of the situation.
- If classes are canceled or dismissed early, all athletic, Community Use and Continuing Education events are canceled.
- Before- and After-School Programs: The Before-School Program regular start time will be delayed just as the opening of school is delayed. The early dismissal of school will activate the After-School Program, which will start at the time of school dismissal and continue until the regular closing time. If schools are closed, neither program will operate.
