Local Closings, Delays and Early Dismissals
Sometimes, events such as power failures, heating and air conditioning system breakdowns, water main breaks and so on, will force us to have to cancel classes at, delay the opening of, or dismiss early a small number of Wake County Public schools.
If the decision is made to cancel classes, open late or dismiss schools early, the following plan goes into effect:
- The crisis team will go into action to monitor and manage the situation.
- This Website will carry the announcement of the closing, delay or early dismissal.
- Depending on the number of schools affected, either the emergency phone system will contact all affected parents, or the Notification Service will be activated to inform subscribers of the situation.
- Media outlets will be notified of the situation.
- If classes are canceled or dismissed early, all athletic, Community Use and Continuing Education events at the affected schools are canceled.
- Before- and After-School Programs:The Before-School Program regular start time will be delayed justÊas the opening of school is delayed. The early dismissal of school will activate the After-School Program, which will start at the time of school dismissal and continue until the regular closing time. If schools are closed, neither program will operate.
