The Last First Day is Sunday August 23rd. The time for decorating on Sunday, as well as an inclement weather plan are still TBD, but planning needs to get underway. I'm attaching some photos to this email so that you can visualize what the parking lot and bus loop look like on that first day back to school. We are need of several volunteers for this project.
In addition to decorating your own student's parking space with chalk drawings (CHALK ONLY , absolutely NO paint and nothing above ground level) parents paint the Spirit Bus, make signs and posters to line the drive and bus loop, make a balloon arch, write messages in the chain-link fence with solo cups or crepe paper, and do various other decorations. There is also set-up of some items like the balloons before school on Monday August 24th and then there is clean-up of posters etc. later that day typically after school.
A chairperson usually sends a Sign-up Genius requesting volunteers for each of these decorating activities. Is anyone interested in chairing this event? Or interested in coordinating a piece of the event such as the balloons, poster making, or taking on the bus loop area? Last year, Tabitha Murray, did the balloon displays and she's an excellent resource for us. We have some posters that can be used again, but many are dated for the class year and require the making of new ones. In the past we've both made posters at home and had a poster making party. Keep in mind that every year is slightly different than the year before and there aren't any expectations. I can assure you that in 2013 the balloon arrangement wasn't nearly as elaborate as last year's. :-)
Please reach out to me soon if you are interested in coordinating anything related to the First Last Day. If necessary I will send out a Sign-up Genius myself by the end of the week. I've still not received confirmation as to whether the class has selected its theme for the year yet. Looks like that had several good ideas to choose among. I saw one that read 'Go B16 or Go Home!' It takes all of us working together to make senior year specials for our children. If there aren't volunteers, it doesn't happen. Let's go B16!
