The American School Counselor Association (www.schoolcounselor.org) is a worldwide nonprofit organization based in Alexandria, Va. Founded in 1952, ASCA supports school counselors’ efforts to help students focus on academic, career and social/emotional development so they not only achieve success in school but are prepared to lead fulfilling lives as responsible members of society. The association provides professional development, publications and other resources, research and advocacy to school counselors around the globe.
The Student Services Team at CCMMS is an integral part of the middle school model and CCMMS’ own educational philosophy. Each member of our team brings a different area of expertise to CCMMS, all designed to promote healthy decision-making, safety in the schools and educational success. We are available to faculty, students and parents and will advocate for student success, both academic and personal. Mrs. Ward is a full time counselor on the CCMMS staff. Her role as school counselor is to work with students, faculty and parents to create a supportive environment for academic success. Mrs. Ward is the counselor for the 7th grade A-K and 8th grade.
Durenda Johnson Ward
Mr. Cowell is the school social worker for two schools within WCPSS, including CCMMS where he works three days a week. He serves as a liaison between home and school, to help ensure academic success. Mr. Cowell can help families locate resources in the community as well as facilitate communication
between home and school.

Mr. Hopson is a full time counselor on the CCMMS staff. His role as school counselor is to work with students, faculty and parents to create a supportive environment for academic success. Mr. Hopson is the counselor for 6th grade and 7th grade L-Z.
