I want to give a special thank you to our PTA for organizing their only fundraising event this year. The first annual Color Run was a success. Over 360 family and student participants and 35 staff members participated in this event. The event was planned very well, folks had a great time, and all money raised is going to upgrading technology in every classroom for West Cary. I thank everyone who participated and made this event a success!

We have just 32 instructional days left this school year. We will begin our EOG/EOC testing on Friday, May 26 before Memorial Day weekend. We will continue our testing during the last week of May and into the first week of June for make-up testing.

We will be putting all end of year activities on our school calendar which can be accessed on the school website. Two important scheduled events are: 6-8 Grade Awards Ceremony – Thursday, June 8th, 6-7 pm in the school gymnasium. 8 th Grade Promotion Ceremony – Friday, June 9th, 7:45 in the school gymnasium.

I would like to congratulate Ms. Stephanie Harris, our Lead Secretary for being honored as one of the District’s Employee Excellence Award recipient at the WCPSS School Board meeting on Tuesday, April 18th. Ms. Harris has made a huge difference for us at West Cary and her work is greatly appreciated.

The First Annual Color Run takes place this Saturday, April 22, 2017. If you didn't register for the race you are more than welcome to come and hang out and cheer your friends on. The doors open at 9 am and those who did register for the Color Run will receive their T-shirt and sunglasses. The race will begin at 10 am. There will be a DJ, vendors on site like Kona Ice, Mathnasium, Warrior Tech OCR, and lots of cool raffle baskets – so bring your money to enjoy the refreshments and purchase a raffle ticket for the basket items! We are also still accepting donations on the My School Anywhere site-all donations are going towards the purchase of new technology for our school. Be sure to bring towels and a garbage bag to minimize the amount of “color” in your vehicle! You are also welcome to bring lawn chairs to relax in after the event, which will be held rain or shine.

Come out and support West Cary athletics. You may check the athletics link on our school website for a complete listing of spring sports.

We have just one quarter left in our school year. This year has gone by very fast. I’ve challenged our students and teachers to make the final fourth quarter grading period the best work they’ve done all year. It is this time of the year that we cannot let down our momentum and “coast” to the finish. We have to put together academically our best effort and work so our students can finish their learning on the best and highest possible marks. Parent – please support us at home by making sure your child studies / read their class notes, check Power School weekly for updated grades, and insist that you see their homework or classwork they are completing.

6 th grade parents - North Carolina law now requires Tdap and Meningococcal vaccines for entry into 7th grade. Please make sure your child’s vaccinations are up to date before September 1, 2017.

I hope everyone enjoys their Spring Break and the much needed rest we all need. I look forward to everyone coming back to school on April 17, 2017 and have the best fourth quarter grading period of their school career! West Cary Families – our school motto is “Dream, Believe, Achieve – Make It Happen!” We are committed to excellence and helping our students dream, believe, and achieve in their academic and athletic successes.
