UPDATE 10/30

Lake Myra Families,

Because we want to keep you informed, I wanted to let you know that we conducted a code red lockdown drill today at 9:30am. This was only a drill, and it was completed successfully. A code red lockdown is our highest security alert. In a code red lockdown, no one is allowed to enter or exit the building, and all students remain in their classrooms with doors locked. The lockdown remains in place until law enforcement officials give us an all-clear announcement. Again, today’s exercise was only a drill.
Student safety is our top priority. Staying prepared is key, which is why we perform these drills on a regular basis. We appreciate the cooperation of our students and staff in this effort.

More information about our lockdown protocols is available on the Keeping Your Child Safe website.

Thank you for your continued support of our school.

Keeping Your Child Safe (Manteniendo seguro a su estudiante).

Gracias por su continuo apoyo a nuestra escuela.

To fully enjoy the experience of different traditions, why not spend a day celebrating Hispanic culture? Download delicious Latin American recipes, support a local Hispanic-owned business, or expand family games night to include Dominos or a Mexican Bingo game called Loteria.

You can also take a virtual tour of important heritage sites, such as Mexico City, the Cabrillo National Monument, and the Teotihuacan Pyramid, or other key historical locations that have stood the test of time and various conflicts as Hispanic peoples fought for freedom.

And finally, if you want to become more involved in the community, Jose Antonio Tijerino, president of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, suggests volunteering or enhancing public awareness of minority struggles that still continue to this day.

It was wonderful to see all of our Leaders back at the Lake last week.  We will welcome our PreK students this week who start full days on Monday.

Leader In Me  Please take a minute to complete our Leader In Me annual survey. This helps us determine the best way to support our students and your family on our leadership journey!

Looking for a way to talk with your student about Leader in Me?  Here is the  7 Habits Tree to get you started.

Join us for our 1st PTA meeting and Chalk Art Family night  Thursday August 10th at 6:30. Come create chalk art, meet (& join) our PTA and find out about volunteer opportunities at the Lake.  Here is the  PTA newsletter .

Check out our staff wish lists HERE…and if you want to help the PTA stock the Fridge for our staff click HERE

Arrival:  Students can begin arriving at 8:45, and should be in classrooms by 9:15 at the latest. Please assist us in getting your student to school on time! Students who are eating breakfast should arrive at school no later than 9:10.  Breakfast service ends at 9:15 (unless the student arrives on a late bus).

Dismissal:  Grateful  for your patience during dismissal last week.  Thank you for practicing Habit 4 Think Win-Win and considering other people’s wins as well as your own when using carpool. Families and staff synergized to find solutions for walkers/bikers…and the carpool line was finished by 4:13 on Friday!

Walkers/Bikers:  Please remember that if your student is a walker they (and you) should be walking.  The parking spaces along Elk Falls belong to the residents, and are not to be used for Lake Myra families. Additionally, parking along the neighborhood streets is not part of the walker/bike rider agreement.  If you are picking up your student(s)  in a vehicle, you must get a carpool tag, and use our carpool loop.  Golf carts are considered vehicles.

Reminder for  Daily Transportation changes: Please ONLY call the office for daily transportation changes. Please do not email or Talking Points message the teacher. Teachers rely on the office staff to communicate transportation changes.

School Meals: Breakfast is only free for students who qualify for free or reduced meals. Applications may be completed on-line or a paper copy is available from the main office. Applications must be completed no later than 9/11/23. PLEASE complete this TODAY!

July 30th, 2023

First day of school is Monday July 31st.  We are excited to see all our kindergarten-5th grade leaders back at the Lake.  Good news…the elevator is working!

Please take a moment to read our Lake Myra Family Handbook for the  2023-24 school year. It is  filled with a lot of helpful information to ensure our Lake Myra community continues to work together in support of all our students.  In addition,  here is the beginning of year PTA newsletter

In preparation for a smooth beginning, here are a few reminders:

Arrival & Dismissal

Arrival begins at 8:45 and the tardy bell rings at 9:15. Dismissal is 3:45. No early checkouts after 3:15.

Please be sure to carefully read the expectations above and reference the map for carpooling to ensure safe and orderly arrival and dismissal.

Thank you for practicing Habit 4 Think Win-Win and considering other people’s wins as well as your own when using carpool. Remember, effectiveness is largely achieved through the collaborative efforts of two or more people. Win-win is a frame of mind and heart that seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. It’s based on a paradigm that there’s plenty for everybody—that one person’s success is not achieved at the expense of others.

Daily Transportation changes: Please ONLY call the office for daily transportation changes. Please do not email or Talking Points message the teacher. Teachers rely on the office staff to communicate transportation changes.

Meals: Breakfast is only free for students who qualify for free or reduced meals. Applications may be completed on-line or a paper copy is available from the main office. Applications must be completed no later than 9/11/23.

Communication: Talking Points is the communication platform used by teachers (and sometimes by administration).  Please be sure your cell  phone number and email address are current. Contact your child’s teacher if you have not received a Talking Points message.

Weekly family messages from Mrs. Ballard, principal, will be sent on Sunday through school messenger (email and text) and are posted under the principal weekly message on our website.
