Long-Range School Plan

In fall 2004, the Wake County Public School System (WCPSS) contracted with the Operations Research and Education Laboratory (OR/Ed. Lab) at the Institute for Transportation Research and Education at North Carolina State University to develop a Long-Range School Plan. The purpose was to create an analytical, data-driven process that incorporates land use and future developments into determining the student growth by place of residence, and to determine optimal target areas for future school sites. |
| GOAL The goal is to distribute county-wide
enrollment projections to approximately 6,000 geographic planning
regions ( |

| METHOD The
new method improves upon the current system by incorporating municipal
planning data and projections into school and infrastructure planning,
adding GIS technology and Operations Research methodologies, and projecting
school sites ( |

| PARTNERSHIP
This will be a continuous
long-range school and community planning process involving:
WCPSS, Wake
County, NC Government, Town of
Apex, Town of Cary, Town
of Fuquay-Varina, Town of
Garner, Town of Holly
Springs, Town of Knightdale,
Town of Morrisville,
City
of Raleigh, Town of
Rolesville, Town of Wake
Forest, Town of Wendell,
Town of Zebulon, and Capital
Area Municipal Planning Organization, with the OR/Ed.
Lab coordinating updates. |
