Arts Education-An Overview
The arts subscribe to an instructional program that challenges each student to develop and maintain a dynamic awareness of his individuality and environment in a manner unique to himself. A students abilities to contribute constructively and creatively to his changing world are furthered by the arts.
Arts Education encompasses a broad range of experiences related directly to literacy skills in Math, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies. Students who learn how to read music, compose choreography, create visual art, calculate and execute theatrical designs are able to transfer their skills into their other classroom experiences.
Lessons focus on critical thinking and problem solving, creative self-expression, and aesthetic awareness. Arts education in the WCPSS encompasses a sequential program in visual arts, dance, drama, and music. The program is based on the belief that the arts are basic and add richness to an individuals life.
