Minutes
The minutes for the meeting of February 11, 2000 are as follows:
1. The meeting started with a presentation by Bob Williams. He handed out a report which consisted of a test to see how much the members knew about the WCPSS. The committee came to a consensus that the report he gave out was very helpful. He would like for the committee to:
- look over the report and provide a breakout of classrooms by area and by year, type of classrooms, etc.
- give a summary of what has been put on hold
- confirm county enrollment projection
- have discussion on size of schools
- determine what the WCPSS needs in the way of help from the legislature
2. Chuck Fuller also wants the WCPSS to think about whether lifting the cap on charter schools or extending it would be a benefit.
3. The committee moved on to discussing the principles. They finalized all but four from the last meeting of Jan. 21, 2000. They adopted the following:
|
A. The Capital Spending Plan should reflect every effort to avoid a tax increase B.&D. Committee to research these and report back to the group. The subgroup consists of: Tony Habit, Diana Bader, Ferris Chandler, Don Walston, Susan Fonville, Ann Rollins and Allen Jones. C. Deleted |
The list will be e-mailed to each member and they will rank them. This will determine the way they will be listed. Jim Talton is not going to provide a tally or a number by the priorities.
4. The committee also discussed additional meeting dates. Jim Talton suggested meeting every Friday until March 31. The group unanimously decided not to add any additional dates.
5. Jim Talton reported that the board of education and the county commissioners have not responded to his request to come to some of the committee meetings. He is going to try and get on the agenda for next Wednesday's meeting. He also wants to find out which of the committee members know the board members and county commissioners personally so they can meet with them one-on-one.
