Citizens Advisory Committee for School Facilities Planning and Funding

The Citizens Advisory Committee for School Facilities Planning and Funding was created to recommend solutions to the building, renovation, and technology challenges created by the explosive growth of the Wake County student population, which is currently increasing by 3,000 students annually. The Committee was empaneled after a bond referendum failed in June of 1999.
Committee members were chosen jointly by the Wake County Board of Education, the Wake County Board of Commissioners, and Committee Chairman Jim Talton. Committee members represent the breadth of viewpoints and the diversity of the greater Wake County community.
The committee is charged with recommending to the Board of County Commissioners and Board of Education an acceptable capital spending plan for schools in addressing the needs for:
- New Schools
- Renovations and repairs to existing schools
- Other facilities (such as joint use facilities, Teacher Training Center, Bus Maintenance facilities, etc.)
- Technology
and to recommend strategies for broader inclusion of the community for future capital spending plans.
