School Psychology Section
The School Psychology Section is one of five areas under the Counseling and Student Services (CASS) department. School psychologists help children and youth succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. They collaborate with educators, parents, and other mental health professionals to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments for all students. Most psychologists serve two schools.

Job Description
- Qualifications: A school psychologist is required to have a specialist level degree or Ph.D. in School Psychology as well as certification by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
- Reports To: Lead Psychologist and/or Senior Director of Counseling and Student Services (CASS)
- Terms of Employment: 11 or 12 months
- Performance Responsibilities and Expectations:
- Collect, manage, and interpret individual and group data to assist in improving outcomes for students (e.g., designing interventions, monitoring student progress, consulting with school administrators and teachers, and communicating research findings to the school setting).
- Participate on pre-referral teams to help students achieve success within the regular education setting.
- Conduct psychoeducational evaluations to help school teams determine special education eligibility.
- Assist schools to prepare for and respond to crisis situations.
- Provide training to school staff as well as other psychologists when needed.
- Maintain the highest ethical, professional, and legal standards as well as federal/state/local policies in the delivery of school psychological services.
- Recognize when issues of diversity affect the manner and nature of interactions with others and adapt/modify practices in response.
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
