Board of Education appoints Bill Fletcher as District 9 board member

The Board of Education voted on March 9 to appoint Bill Fletcher to fill the board’s vacant seat in District 9, which represents western Wake County.

Fletcher previously served three terms on the Board of Education from 1993 to 2005. He was selected from among six candidates who sat in 30-minute interviews during the Saturday session. Read his application >>

Fletcher will serve the remainder of the term previously held by former board member Debra Goldman, which expires in November. He will be sworn in on March 19 at the next regular meeting of the Board of Education.

Board Chairman Keith Sutton called Fletcher’s appointment an opportunity to bring a level of experience to the board, and said he showed “passion for the position.”
