The N.C. School Social Workers Association has named Apex High school social worker Steve Sapienza the School Social Worker of the Year for the state of North Carolina.
Sapienza has been a WCPSS school social worker for nine years. The first several years, he served a variety of elementary and middle schools in the Wake Forest area. In recent years, he has concentrated on high school population and has built a data driven attendance and validation program that has shown positive results at Apex High.
The NCSSWA award honors individuals who have demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication in the performance of their jobs, earning the respect and admiration of students, teachers, administrators, coworkers, parents and community partners.
The general public and association members may nominate members of the association for the award.
