Green Hope student earns third best in Microsoft Office Worldwide Competition

Green Hope High student Alex Bainbridge earned a bronze medal for his third place finish at the World Competition for Microsoft Excel 2010 in Las Vegas on August 1. Bainbridge earned a $500 scholarship prize.

The exam competition this year was the largest yet with 285,000 students participating from 53 countries. 113 student finalists participated in the final round of competition.

In the competition, students were timed as they used Microsoft Office software to complete tasks. Bainbridge competed in Microsoft Excel 2010.

Bainbridge was one of three North Carolina students who qualified for six U.S. slots in the Centriport World Competition. At Green Hope High, he earned the Microsoft Office Specialist Master Level Certification in the new state-required Microsoft Office certification program. Students could earn certifications in Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Publisher.

Thanks to his teacher Marty Roettgen for keeping us updated on his progress in the competition and Area Superintendent Jacqueline Ellis for sharing this photo.
