More than 700 students from across Wake County participated in the 2010 Wake County French Festival on Thursday, March 11. Students in grades 6 through 12 competed in events: Traditional Songs, Spelling Bee, Original Group Dramatics, Poetry Recitation, Theater Performance, Talent, and Cultural Exhibits. Dozens of volunteers, parents and chaperones helped to make the event a special day. Community members from the French-speaking community in Wake County served as judges for the competitions, including representatives from the Canadian Consulate. Tom Huffstetler, WCPSS Senior Administrator for Second Languages, coordinated the event in an effort to bring awareness to the importance of speaking another language in the 21st century.
