WILEY ELEMENETARY EARNS SIR WALTER RALEIGH AWARD

Oct. 4, 2001--Christina Lighthall of WCPSS Facilities told the Board of Education at its Monday meeting about recognition earned by a school renovation project. The Raleigh City Council awarded Wiley Elementary additions and renovations project a Sir Walter Raleigh Award for Community Appearance on Oct. 4. The award recognizes an institutional project that exhibits a new standard for excellence and an example of the future, an awareness of the importance of good community appearance and stewardship of the land, and improvements upon an existing site or structure and preservation of important historic and cultural features. Lighthall said the honor was earned by project architect Matte Gurel, AIA Gurel Architecture, and staff including facility planner Larry Sherrill and project manager Mike Wiltzius.
