Organizational
Development
The role of the Department of Organizational Development is to promote continuous improvement through the wise use of system resources, professional development for employees, and outreach to the “customers” of the division.
The department developed and runs the EnergySavers ® program, the Feed the Bin Recycling program, and provides educational resources and training to students, teachers, and staff on other natural resource-related subjects such as water conservation and indoor air quality. Using a student-led, multi-disciplinary approach, these programs prepare students for their future role as consumers and help the school system save money. Information and training about the operations of Auxiliary Services is also presented to school staff, parents, and community leaders through programs such as the Educational Commissioning program.
New employee orientation and computer training is offered to Auxiliary Services employees through the Organizational Development training program. The department also facilitates the OSHA mandated safety-training program for the division, including First Aid/CPR training. Trade-specific skills training is provided in areas such as carpentry, HVAC, electricity, and plumbing, and continuing education opportunities are provided for those employees who must maintain licenses and other credentials to do their jobs. An apprenticeship program that provides state and national accreditation for employees has recently been implemented in cooperation with the N.C. Department of Labor.
