How much will the school system grow in the next few years?
New enrollment projection show Wake County schools gaining nearly 56,000 students by 2020. The Wake County Planning Department projects the school system's enrollment to increase from 104,546 students (2002/2003) to 123,747 in 2008, and to over 129,000 in 2010. Enrollment is expected to increase to more than 160,000 in 2020.

What is the status of mobile classrooms?
PLAN 2004 will provide more seats for the growing enrollment in Wake County. The percentage of students in mobiles will remain around 9 percent. The school system's long-term goal is to have 92% of students in permanent classrooms.

Will the new building program, PLAN 2004, solve all overcrowding?
No, but it will keep up with growth. PLAN 2004 will add 13 new schools (11,839 seats) and major repairs or renovations at 16 schools. 70 other schools will have minor repairs done to them. Wake County is growing so rapidly that three new elementary schools and one new middle school is needed every year just to keep up with growth.
