Impact if Approved by the Board of Education

Approximately 575 students from nodes 341.1, 342.1, 342.2, 342.3, 342.4, 342.5, 342.6, 531.0, 532.0, and 569.0 will be reassigned from Hilburn to Sycamore Creek. Approximately 61 students from node 291.4 will be reassigned from Baileywick to Sycamore Creek. Approximately 122 students from node 271.1 will be reassigned from North Ridge to Sycamore Creek. Approximately 12 students from node 340.2 will be reassigned from Leesville to Sycamore Creek. Approximately 197 students attending year-round schools on applications and living in the new base area will be reassigned to Sycamore Creek from Brier Creek and Green.

Reasons for Staff Recommendations

Capacity: The new elementary school will have 51 classroom spaces.

Crowding: Crowding was not a concern at this school in the development of these recommendations.

Healthy Schools: The Board decided that the new school will have a base area immediately around the school and additional areas assigned as base to provide a population of students from low-income families that will make the new school similar to other existing schools. The new assignments approved by the Board will result in about 18% of students at the new school coming from low-income families.

Long Range Planning: Most of the base area suggested for the new school is already developed. Future growth should be slow.
