Reasons for Staff Recommendations

Capacity:  No additional mobile units can be added to the two currently at Swift Creek.

Crowding:  The school is currently overcrowded because of the temporary placement of about 86 students whose parents did not consent to assignment to a year-round school. If the Court of Appeals supports the Board of Education's right to assign students to year-round schools, staff will recommend that those students attend their base year-round assignment. If the Court of Appeals does not intervene, the Growth and Planning Department will make further recommendations regarding traditional calendar assignments for 2008-09 later this spring.

Healthy Schools:  The percentage of students from low-income families will fall from 35% to 28%.

Long Range Planning:  Future schools opening in 2009, 2010, and 2011 are not expected to significantly impact the attendance area of this school.
