Impact if Approved by the Board of Education

Approximately 105 students will be reassigned from Wildwood Forest Elementary from nodes 233.3 and 233.7 to North Forest Pines. Nodes 305.0 and 715.0 are located north of Hwy 98 and are surrounded by other North Forest Pines assignments. They were suggested for reassignment from Forest Pines to North Forest Pines in the draft plan, but were removed prior to approval of the final plan because they are likely candidates for reassignment when E25 elementary opens. The Board decided that North Forest Pines be made available as an application option for families residing in the Forest Pines base area in an effort to reduce overcrowding at Forest Pines.

Reasons for Staff Recommendations

Capacity: No mobile units can be placed on the campus.

Crowding: Crowding during the coming year was not a concern at this school in the development of these recommendations

Healthy Schools: The percentage of students from low-income families is currently 22% and the Board approved changes which will raise this percentage slightly to 25%. This percentage is comparable to neighboring schools.

Long Range Planning: Development will continue to occur north of Hwy 98 but capacity should be adequate for the next several years. The opening of E25 Elementary in 2010-11 will impact the assignment area for this school.
