Comment On Laurel Park Elementary

System Staff are soliciting public feedback on this Draft Proposal.

Comments will be considered when the Proposal is revised before being presented to the Board.

Note: Two projection models were used in developing draft recommendations for student assignment changes for the 2009-10, 2010-11, and 2011-12 school years: a one year cohort growth model and a housing-based model developed by the ITRE/ORED lab at NC State. We present a profile based on each model. School node maps, if available, are accessed from the profile tabs.

Staff Recommendations

To better utilize the facility at Laurel Park Elementary and to relieve overcrowding at Turner Creek Elementary, staff recommends that nodes currently applying to Turner Creek Elementary for the year-round calendar be reassigned to apply to Laurel Park Elementary. This includes 11 nodes: 400.0, 401.0, 407.0, 408.0, 409.0, 410.0, 411.0, 416.0, 723.0, and 741.0.

Staff also recommends that nodes assigned as base nodes to Baucom Elementary, which is converting to a traditional calendar, be designated as year-round calendar application nodes for Laurel Park.

Staff recommends that the tradition application school will remain Briarcliff Elementary.
