Reasons for Staff Recommendations
Capacity: No change is planned for the eight mobile units at Holly Ridge.
Crowding: The school is currently overcrowded because of the temporary placement of about 100 students whose parents did not consent to assignment to a year-round school. If the Court of Appeals supports the Board of Education's right to assign students to year-round schools, staff will recommend that those students attend their base year-round assignment. If the Court of Appeals does not intervene, the Growth and Planning Department will make further recommendations regarding traditional calendar assignments for 2008-09 later this spring. This action along with a reduction in the base area of the school should avoid overcrowding until E27 elementary opens.
Healthy Schools: The percentage of students from low-income families will rise slightly from 28% to 29% which is about ten points higher than neighboring schools but below the systemwide average.
Long Range Planning: The opening of E27 Elementary in 2009-10 will probably impact the assignment area for this school.
