Reasons for Staff Recommendations

Capacity:  One additional mobile classroom will be added to Hunter Elementary.

Crowding:  Crowding has been a problem at Hunter because too many students were admitted to the school through the magnet school application process. The projected crowding shown on this page will not occur because magnet school admissions can be controlled and will not increase at the rate projected by the planning software. In calculating growth, the projection software applies the same growth factor to the magnet application students as it does to the students in base nodes. Since these are application students in a node and not base students, the impact of either losing or gaining students may not be as large as indicated.

Healthy Schools:  The percentage of students from low-income families at Hunter is currently at 26%, which staff believes is too low for a magnet school. The staff's draft recommendations will raise this percentage to 31%.

Long Range Planning:  Future schools opening in 2009, 2010, and 2011 are not expected to significantly impact the attendance area of this school.
