Impact if Approved by the Board of Education
Approximately 575 students from nodes 341.1, 342.1, 342.2, 342.3, 342.4, 342.5, 342.6, 531.0, 532.0, and 569.0 will be reassigned from Hilburn to Sycamore Creek. Approximately 131 students from nodes 017.2 and 017.3 will be reassigned from Hilburn to Brier Creek. Approximately 14 students will be reassigned from node 066.1 to Leesville Road. The new base area for Hilburn will be composed of 185 students from nodes 316.2, 316,3, 318.4, and 318.5 from Leesville, 38 students from node 651.0 from Lynn Road, and 81 students from nodes 317.1, 317.4, and 572.0 from York Elementary. The new base area will be composed of neighborhoods contiguous to the school. The Board decided that the BOE designate Hilburn as the traditional calendar option for the new Sycamore Creek attendance area. Staff further recommends that Leesville Elementary be designated as the year-round option for Leesville nodes that are reassigned to Hilburn and York.

Base Nodes Out:
Reasons for Staff Recommendations
Capacity: No change is planned for the eight mobile units at Hilburn. Approximately 200 seats can be made available for applicants seeking a traditional calendar school.
Crowding: Crowding was not a concern at this school in the development of these recommendations.
Healthy Schools: Since the nodes close to Hilburn that staff is recommending for a new Hilburn base area are already socio-economically diverse, some of the nodes currently assigned to Hilburn that contain large numbers of students from low-income families can be reassigned to Brier Creek and Leesville Road to make those schools more comparable to neighboring schools.
Long Range Planning: A large majority of the students currently attending Hilburn reside near the location of the new Sycamore Creek Elementary. If those students are reassigned to the new school, a new base area for the school needs to be established and staff believes this should be created by assigning nodes surrounding the school to Hilburn. The nodes surroundiing the school will not fill the school's current capacity, so additional spaces can be made available for families applying for a traditional calendar alternative to the current year-round assignment.
